Meu trabalho na Oeste tem sido mostrar avanços e questões da tecnologia que ainda não chegaram ao Brasil. Minha matéria desta semana partiu de um equívoco - o primeiro nesse sentido, nesses quatro anos, acho.

Minha pauta dessa semana partiu da última capa da revista Time. A matéria falava do Orb, uma invenção da equipe de Sam Altman (o criador do ChatGPT). Sua ideia era basicamente a seguinte: se está cada vez mais difícil identificar uma inteligência artificial online, vamos fazer o contrário. Vamos usar esse aparelho acima, o Orb, para identificar os humanos através de suas íris oculares. Quem topasse ser escaneado ganharia como agradecimento um pequeno pacote de criptomoedas.

Descobri então que esse projeto da organização World não é tão novidade quando a capa da Time insinuava. O Orb chegou a identificar muitos brasileiros, mas o processo foi interrompido por causa de um preciosismo da burocracia federal. Aproveitei o fato para explicar essa história a quem nunca tinha ouvido falar e dar todos os detalhes atualizados.

My work at Oeste magazine has been to show advances and issues in technology that have not yet reached Brazil. My article this week was based on a mistake - the first of its kind in these four years, I think.

My agenda this week was based on the latest cover of Time magazine. The article was about Orb, an invention by Sam Altman's team (the creator of ChatGPT). His idea was basically the following: if it is increasingly difficult to identify artificial intelligence online, let's do the opposite. Let's use this device above, the Orb, to identify humans through their irises. Anyone who agrees to be scanned would receive a small package of cryptocurrencies as a thank you.

I then discovered that this project by the World organization is not as new as the Time cover suggested. Orb managed to identify many Brazilians, but the process was interrupted due to a bureaucratic oversight by the federal government. I took advantage of this fact to explain this story to those who had never heard of it and to give all the updated details.
