A última encarnação de Jack Ryan

 

"Poucos personagens da cultura pop foram interpretados por tantos atores de prestígio quanto Jack Ryan: Alec Baldwin (1990), Harrison Ford (1992–1994), Ben Affleck (2002) e Chris Pine (2014). Ryan foi criado pelo mestre da ficção tecno-militar, Tom Clancy (1947-2013).

Poderia ser uma cena passada em qualquer lugar do mundo, mostrando o quanto estamos todos cada vez mais parecidos. Mas pela fala da mãe, percebemos que são árabes. Ali e Mussah vão para o terraço. Ali se diverte vendo Mussah se atrapalhando ao tentar dar milho para as galinhas.

Enquanto os garotos se divertem, um letreiro identifica o local e o tempo onde vivem - Vale do Bekaa, Líbano, 1983. Se você der uma pausa e pesquisar, vai se lembrar (ou descobrir) que o vale do Bekaa sofreu um desastrado bombardeio comandado por forças americanas e francesas em dezembro de 1983 . Se pesquisar mais um pouco, vai descobrir que os EUA e a França estavam retribuindo um brutal ataque terrorista cometido contra eles provavelmente por forças clandestinas comandadas pelo Irã.

Mas crianças como Ali e Mousa não sabem nada disso quando observam uma esquadrilha de caças-bombardeiros (sem identificação visível) penetrando o vale e passando em frente à casa deles. Os caças dão uma volta, lançam suas bombas, e a casa dos meninos é atingida em cheio".

"Few characters in pop culture have been portrayed by so many prestigious actors as Jack Ryan: Alec Baldwin (1990), Harrison Ford (1992–1994), Ben Affleck (2002), and Chris Pine (2014). Ryan was created by the master of techno-military fiction, Tom Clancy (1947–2013).

The pilot begins far from Ryan himself. It opens on a house where a boy (Mousa) dances to a pop song for his younger brother (Ali), who laughs in delight. Their mother interrupts them and tells them to go outside while she finishes preparing dinner.

It could be a scene set anywhere in the world, showing how increasingly alike we’ve all become. But from the mother’s speech, we realize they are Arab. Ali and Mousa go up to the roof. Ali giggles as Mousa clumsily tries to feed the chickens.

While the boys are having fun, a caption identifies their place and time — Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, 1983. If you pause and do a quick search, you’ll remember (or discover) that the Bekaa Valley suffered a disastrous bombing carried out by American and French forces in December 1983. If you dig a little deeper, you’ll find that the U.S. and France were retaliating for a brutal terrorist attack against them, likely orchestrated by clandestine forces under Iranian command.

But children like Ali and Mousa know nothing of this as they watch a squadron of fighter-bombers (with no visible markings) fly into the valley and pass right in front of their house. The jets circle back, release their bombs, and the boys’ home takes a direct hit."
